In case you missed my postings on Facebook and Twitter, I’ve been 3D printing 1:20 scale model station signs. They look like this:

They were originally created to be desk name tags, based on our area’s train station signs. They are available in single and double sided versions. The popular choice for most people seems to be their name on one side, and their favorite station on the other. If you would like one, you can put in a request here:

The last day to put in your request is next Thursday, November 15th.

    Neat idea!

It might be helpful (to potential customers) if you noted the actual dimensions of the signs (not just the scale).

I also wonder if there’d be a market for these in the scales favored by model railroaders.

    O Scale is 1:48

    HO Scale is 1:87 (roughly)

Each sign is slightly different in width, depending on how long the text is. Height is about 3.5 inches.

Unfortunately, the nature of the full-color material printing makes it difficult to work in smaller scales. Which is not to say that you can’t print 3D in O or HO scale, higher detailed materials are available, just not in color. Thus, you would have to paint whatever is printed, which is a whole area I’m not looking to go into.

Thanks. I’m still trying to adjust to referring to such fabrication as “printing” (though I’m told that if I saw the process it would all make sense).
